Japanese
supermarkets are not as numerous as
convenient stores, but you can still find a few of them in every town.
They are
spaced pretty far apart from each other, usually on major roads or in
large
shopping centers, but there are always signs telling you where the
nearest one
is. All of the supermarkets in Japan
are multi leveled buildings with everything imaginable in them. You can
find
anything from food to furniture, and everything in between. There are
cosmetics, hardware, toiletries, household essentials, books, audio,
video,
electronics, and even a clothing section. Some of the most common
supermarkets
are Jusco, Life, and Matsumoto. Matsumoto is probably the most famous
in Japan,
and it
has the largest variety of products to choose from.

These stores are the best
place to find good deals, and get
all your shopping done in one place at the same time. Unlike convenient
stores,
supermarkets are unfortunately not open 24 hours a day, but most of
them do
stay open until 10pm. Also, you can always find someone who works there
that
speaks English. They are extremely helpful and friendly, which is nice
if you
are a foreigner trying to navigate through the store based on all the
Japanese
signs. You can find both Japanese brands and American brands alongside
each
other on the shelf, so you have a wide variety of options to choose
from.
